Ukrainian Vogue presents Its 2023 Summer issue

The Summer edition celebrates the new generation of Ukrainian creatives that promote our country on the international scene. In its pages over 20 (a record for the magazine) Ukrainian models are featured, from established names (Viktoria Lulko and Pasha Harulia have already appeared on the magazine cover) to new faces who are making first steps in their professional career.

Kyiv-born, NYC and Paris-based photographers Tanya and Zhenya Posternak have worked for Chanel, Loewe, and Alaia. Commissioned by Vogue, the sisters duo collaborated with NYC-based costume designer Miyako Bellizzi on an extensive portfolio of emerging Ukrainian models. In the resulting series The Class of 2023, they are portrayed as nostalgic heroes of the rave scene of the 1980s.

Patrick Bienert, a German art and fashion photographer, contributed to the issue’s print cover. It is his second assignment for Vogue Ukraine. His project, The Return to Eden, is a continuation of Bienert’s photographic work from the recently published album Happy Springs. Bienert shot it in multiple trips to the south of Ukraine. For this issue, Patrick took a series of intimate portraits of Ukrainian youth shot against the backdrop of endless meadows and glassy lake surfaces.

Vogue continues to support fashion talent and celebrate the names the entire industry is now buzzing about. In Yan Wasiuchnik's photo series, model Kristy Ponomar strolls through Warsaw in clothes by Svitlana Bevza, Masha Popova, Anna October, and TG Botanical, sustainable Ukrainian brand. In her essay The Diary of Memory, art curator Halyna Hleba examines the phenomenon of contemporary Ukrainian photography and how photographs taken earlier acquire new meaning under the conditions of total war.

The Agents of Change portfolio consists of the stories of women who promote contemporary Ukrainian culture, science, and sports. These include conductor and performer of new academic music Viktoriia Vitrenko, music video director Tanu Muiño, photographer Daria Svertilova, astrophysicist Olena Kompaniiets, and gymnast Viktoriia Onopriienko. These women are but few examples of the generation of vibrant, driven, and talented people who actively contribute to shaping the country’s cultural and social landscape. Our current issue is dedicated to all of them.

Along with the Summer issue, a beauty supplement appears for the first time since the full-scale invasion began. It covers topics of physical and mental health, body positivity and inclusion, and motherhood.

The new issue was released on July 19 and is available on selected newsstands and online at vogue.ua.
